Founded in 1945, the Children's Theatre of Western Springs is a well-rounded program for the youngest of theatre artists. Course selections include acting, voice, movement, musical theatre, technical theatre and more. In addition to learning about the performing arts, students are taught collaborative and critical thinking skills vital to success both in the theatre and beyond.

This year marks our 61st season! After six decades of arts, education and entertainment, CTWS continues to bring its students, families and audiences superior classes and productions in an environment that encourages learning every step of the way.

We hope you will join us as we continue to enrich the lives of children and families through live theatre. We have a great season of shows and classes planned, so you’re sure to find something for everyone at the Children’s Theatre of Western Springs.

Weekend Intensives

Are you interested in learning more about theatre but can’t fit a year-long class into your busy schedule? Then you might be interested in our Weekend Intensives. Designed for students in 6th – 12th grade, these shorter classes offer a lot of instruction in a short time.

Tips for Actors : October 11 & 12 1-5pm

Join your favorite members of the CTWS faculty as they share with you all of their best tips for actorsyoung and old.From pointers on auditioning to advice on what to do if you forget a line, this class is not only a great supplement to all of your learning...it's a great time too!

Combat Essentials: April 11 & 12 1-5pm

If you've ever wondered how to safely "throw" a punch on stage, or take a pratfall without needing stiches, you'll want to sign up for this back to basics class. Long-time CTWS instructors and founders of R&D choreography will lead this class that is the perfect refresher for veteran actor combatants and the perfect introduction for students new to the art of stage combat. This class is open to adults as well as students!

Tuition for each is $100

You don’t have to be a full time CTWS student to enroll!

School Year Classes for 2nd graders and up run from September through May, but the fun doesn't stop when the school year ends! Summer provides opportunities for 2nd - 8th graders to explore musical theatre in our Summer Drama Workshop. High school students can delve into more advanced theatre techniques during our High School Repertory Summer Stock Program. Make a note to yourself to register your child early next year, (registration opens March 3rd) as the 4 sessions fill up quickly. Click here for more information
